"Let's escape!"

Dråpeblom.

In 1912 Ingeborg (16) returned from England for a vacation.

Dråpeblom.

Arriving at Tangen, she learnt that her uncle had organised her summer, and she was supposed to work. Her mother was worried that she would over-work and get ill but could not change the mind of the stubborn uncle, and received Ingeborg with the words "Let's escape!"
She borrowed a boat and the family rowed from Tangen to Gjøvik.

Map of trip

"From the moment we started our journey, I can't separate night from day - it was peacefull, relaxing, mum was rowing and singing as always in a boat. I knew the ambience from childhood, and rested."

However, the summer was short and Ingeborg soon had to return to England.

(Quotation from "De unge", volume 1 of Ingeborg's autobiography)
