Back to school

Working in England was hard, and Ingeborg was homesick. In 1913, her mother arranged a place for her and her sister Hilda at the Viken junior high school.

Another year at school! After her work in Newcastle, she felt as if she were on vacation. Her joy of learning was immense, but further education was not an option. The family could not afford it.

The picture below is from 1911.

Ingeborg's own hand-written comment to the picture:
"I'm 16, my hair is done for the photo occasion - I'm devastated by my foreign look, but they absolutely wanted me to look like a grown up lady - so, I surrendered, although depressed."
