Birgit (1879 - 1961) studied with Harriet Backer, but developed her own, characteristic style. Gunnar Janson wrote "she paints like the birds sing." Aslaug Groven Michaelsen characterised her as a "painter of light": "She calls herself a painter of light (...) what her paintings are based on, is the attack of light on colours (...) In a room filled with paintings, one will instantly notice that Birgit Abrahamsen's are the brightest ones. If her paintings fill the walls, even a cloudy day feels sunny. The class rooms she decorated become child heavens." Birgit and Ingeborg met in 1914. They cooperated on many projects, from theatre pieces to school decor until Birgit died in 1961.
